RC Charles Sturt Grange
On Monday 19th February, RC Charles Sturt Grange has a guest speaker attending from the Stroke Foundation.
An invitation has been extended to our club to attend their meeting on that evening. Can you please mark in the folder whether you are interested in attending.
In late October a band of members headed out to Edinburgh Donations In Kind/Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment warehouse in Edinburgh.
As per normal we were allocated various tasks to clean up, sort, prepare goods for repurposing.
A number of items are being aggregated to send off to a health care unit in the southern Philippines. The cost of a container to send in Q1/Q2 2024 will be approaching A$9,000!
As part of the Club's commitment to Rotary International and humanitarian projects, apart from volunteering, from time to time we provide funds to assist the projects being undertaken.
At the Club's Board meeting of 31 October, there was agreement to donate A$5,000 to RARE for the Southern Philippines project.
Thanks to all for the volunteering effort and fundraising to allow this to occur.
The Rotary Club of Somerton Park (RCSP) has organized a monthly coffee get together with our club, members from other clubs from Area 7 and members of the Unley club.
The first was held on Monday 4th December at RCSP Rotary Shed and was well attended by 17 Rotarians from Somerton Park, Unley, McLaren Vale and Holdfast Bay.
Given its success, RCSP will continue the catch up on a regular basis, on the First Monday of the month (note these are our Bunnings BBQ days as well).
Additionally, Somerton Park is a breakfast club. As we don't get much time to socialise, chat and come up with new ideas, this is a good opportunity to do just that over a cup of coffee and biscuits (provided by Somerton Park).
An invitation has been extended to come along to the next one: 10 AM on 5thFebruary 2024 at RC Somerton Park Club rooms, Brighton Oval, Hove SA 5048.
Best route to get here is from Stopford Road, and car park entrance will be on your right. The club shed is on your left.

Ros thanks everyone for pitching in to cancelled the event – the right decision though she suspects we have all spent as much time cancelling as putting it on!!
A quick update – although there is still work in progress!
Hire: Tony Corbett, our roving Honorary Member has managed much of this and we have avoided most costs for toilets, Uniting Technology, Face Painters, Chloe Premier Hire VMS were used to advertise the cancellation on the 2 Bartley Terrace units St Johns First Aid – suggesting we put them on our donation list despite the cancellation. BBQ/Drink/ice Cream Thanks B1, Brenda, Gary & Denis for handling this, we have also specifically stopped the trailer collections from the Rotary shed (thanks Ken).
A team met up on Sunday morning to repack over 1,000 snags from Olga's Fine Foods. About 600 have been frozen, to be thawed for this weekend's Bunnings BBQ on Sat 16 December.
The remainder are now in the freezer at the National Railway Museum.
Performers All performers and activities have been cancelled, they were all disappointed and suggest we consider supporting the community organisations who have prepared for the event. TBC in the mop up

Advertising CCS has helped us with this on their Social Media site Thanks Rosie and Kerry for sorting out our website/facebook page with cancellation advise Ros did an interview on Coast FM on Wednesday with Rob McLennan (RC Adelaide) - they were subsequently advised of cancellation Other social Media contacts have been advised mainly through the performers/sponsors/those providing donations in kind
Sponsors All sponsors have been advised and thanked for their sponsorship. We have offered to put their sponsorship towards RCWL charity and said we have some costs of the event + plan to support the performers who have prepped for the event.

Dianne Parcell was a committed educator. She practised Lifelong Learning, Lifewide Learning & Lifedeep Learning throughout her life as a Teacher, Student Counsellor, Leader in Rotary & Communities in SA & Victoria.
The awards to local primary schools in Dianne's honour provides an opportunity for selected students to further their education. These awards are presented at the end of the school year.

On Thursday 7 December Denis presented Awards worth $500 each to Catherine Boubouras & Dhanin Dhaylan at the West Lakes Shore School Year 6 Graduation Evening. Denis also spoke about Dianne Parcell & the importance of education.
The Awardees & their families were very grateful & the parents informed Denis they would be using the $500 for their children at High School next year eg buying them a new Laptop.

On Friday 8 December, Jane and Tracey represented the Club Year 6 Westport Primary Graduation. Dianne Parcell Scholarship awards were made to Juliesha Sharpe and Amity Lane-Battersby.
Unfortunately Jane & Tracey were unable to meet the parents and also asked not to do any speech because of time constraints. The event was over two hours in duration (1 hr planned).
On behalf of the Rotary Club of West Lakes, President Rosie had the pleasure of presenting the CEO of Women's Safety Services SA, Maria Hagias, a donation in the amount of $5,000.
WSSSA supports women and their children who are experiencing domestic and family violence.
Let's celebrate a century of Rotary in South Australia with lunch on the 4th of February 2024 at the William Magarey Room, Adelaide Oval.
This very special lunch will be a celebration of the people of Rotary, Rotaract and Interact that have made up the rich and diverse tapestry of Rotary in South Australia and the current District 9510. Guests will include members past and present from around Australia and the world. Everyone is invited to come and hear about the story of Rotary in South Australia.
The event will be held 100 years to the day from when the first Rotary Club in South Australia, the Rotary Club of Adelaide was officially chartered by Rotary International on 4 February 1924. This was the start of the Rotary movement in South Australia.
Today there are around 2,200 Rotary, Rotaract and Interact members in over 90 Clubs across South Australia and District 9510.
